The publicity machine is starting to kick into gear for Offspring Season Four and while we've got no official date, we do have a season promo that doesn't give much away.
Still, the expert analyzer that I am (sadly Melbourne Uni won't acknowledge Offspring coverage as an official degree and therefore continue to deprive my mother the chance of getting her daughter a degree in something!) I've studied the trailer and taken a few key pointers away.
Am totes happy for Nina to continue dreaming her mad bananas dreams, but if Mama Proudman actually has a naked spa threesome with Doc Dad and Darcy Dad then my rage will hit new heights!
Clegg is back and this makes me happy but let's not waste the brilliance - don't make him a catch phrase character always carrying the comedy burden.
Hot new mysterious doctor: um, was this not the very description given to Dr Patrick Reid!! I'm all for hot, new, mysterious doctors (both fictional and real) but Patrick and Nina deserve a season of coupleness and if this derails that THEN SO HELP ME!

The publicity is making a mountain out of the unknown gender of the new mysterious hot doctor. I can only surmise from this that nina's realised she's a lesbian. She went to tuff muff in season 3. She tried to snog Zara. She has hopeless luck with men. It's all there!

DeleteI think the new hot doc will be played by Kevin Hofbauer, according to his Twitter account he’s been filming Offspring, and he referred to a shirt-off scene. I think it will give the nurses something to fuss about, and a pregnant-hormones-everywhere Nina something to fantasise and get hot & bothered about, but nothing “real” will happen – just my 2 cents!
Nina & Billie’s relationship will definitely be tested, poor Billie being the only one without a baby, I really feel for her.
Watching Patrick in the promo, alternating between being wrapped round Nina, sitting on the far end of the couch, jumping round with the family, and looking less comfortable sitting on the couch when they are all clowning round, I think (read: hope) Nina & Patrick are very much committed to each other, but there will be ups & downs. Here’s hoping (please please Offspring writers) they learn to communicate with each other better than season 3, to resolve the “downs.”
Seasons 4 starts with Nina 12 weeks pregnant, my prediction is the season ends in episode 13 with birth of happy, healthy, full-term bub for Nina and Patrick (the equivalent of a tv wedding!).

Agree with Lou that it's Kevin and also doubt Nina would really ditch Patrick for him but she will fantasise . And maybe the new doctor will become her "bestie" Asher has said in the past that she would like to explore one of them having a good friend of the opposite sex.

ReplyDeleteEddie Perfect said on the Logies red carpet (I got this quote from @tvtonightau) “It’s drama, shit happens. There’s singing, dancing, a lot of crazy fantasy stuff. It’s probably the funniest but also the saddest season. It swings from comedy to drama pretty quickly.” (yikes, don’t know what to make of that, what can be sadder than Rocket dying?!)
@_TheGuide interviewed MLN this week, asking Twitter if anyone had questions for him. I asked “is he returning for season 5? Not seen him confirm that anywhere?” and “his favourite and least favourite episodes or storylines to portray?” and the following day got this reply “he really enjoyed the storyline dealing w the loss of Patrick’s baby and split with his ex and how that affected him & Nina.” And another tweeter asked “is Patrick coping with having a second baby after his last experience?” and got this reply “Patrick and Nina will be going to couples’ counselling but Matt says they’re in a much better place than last season :)” (this all sounds really good to me, especially given how much I disliked their rushed reunion at the end of season 3)
But my other question about whether MLN is returning for season 5 later this year has gone unanswered, so I’m still nervous MLN will return to LA, not for a break, but for good (he’s said on Twitter he’s returning to LA after Offspring wraps, and he said in his interview on a rugby podcast he might have a project on the Gold Coast in July but it was early days and he couldn’t say too much, but he hasn’t said anywhere that I have seen “and of course I’ve got another season of Offspring to come too”). Hopefully I’m panicking over nothing and the interviews have been restricted to strictly season 4 only!

DeleteHowever (for arguements sake) can the show continue many more seasons with a happily loved up Nina? I would like to think so - however there is a small part of me that is a doubter. The show is based around the drama of her love life to a large extent. If there were no drama how long would the show last?
I do think there are lots of places they can go with a happy Nina. Cue working mum issues, childcare, anxiety over work/life balance, opportunity for a new character with a nanny perhaps, Billie being the crazy Aunt?

I wont spoil anything for anyone with specifics.
I will watch the new Dr with interest. I have a few theories about where that is going but cant really say anything without spoiling it for people.
I feel for Billie and I think she is going to have a tough time.
I also am going to predict a death. I have nothing to base this on mind you. I wouldnt be suprised if one of the dads die.
PS - After watching the episode you will never hear the phrase "compound interest" without it having a whole new meaning!!!!!
